Brazilian paddler and coach Paulo dos Reis, known as Paulão, is a highly experienced figure in Brazil's ocean paddling community. Based in Ilhabela, São Paulo, he offers unique insights into local waters and the demands of ocean paddling. His career began in professional windsurfing, where he achieved multiple national and international titles, including a world championship. Transitioning to SUP and outrigger canoeing in 2011, he quickly excelled, winning national titles in both and international medals, notably a bronze with Team Mirage at the Va’a Sprint World Championships.
In 2019, Paulo founded Clube Dos Reis Va’a in Ilhabela, aiming to connect people with the ocean and Va’a as a lifestyle, emphasizing both technical skill and the sport's philosophy. Collaboration with David Tepava and Shell Va’a significantly enhanced their approach. Under Paulo's leadership, his teams have achieved notable success, including setting race records at the Volta à Ilha and winning the Pan-American Championship.
Having participated in every edition of the VIBE – Volta de Ilhabela since its inception, Paulo is integral to this 90-kilometer relay race around Ilhabela, which he considers one of the world's premier events.
