Hill secures record fourth Hong Kong Dragon Run title as Bester claims women's crown

Hill achieves historic fourth Dragon Run victory

Cory Hill has cemented his status as the most accomplished surfski paddler in the history of the Dragon Run, securing a fourth win. This achievement surpasses the previous record of three titles held by competitors. Returning to the event for the first time since 2019, Hill was determined to win.

Facing characteristic windy and choppy conditions, Hill made his decisive move within the first 200 metres, quickly gapping his rivals and maintaining his lead. Hill expressed delight at securing this victory and felt confident for upcoming events like The Doctor and the Shaw and Partners WA Race Week.

Intense battle unfolds behind the leader

While Hill dominated, a fierce contest raged behind him. A competitor held second early but was soon overtaken by Hank McGregor and another, initiating an arduous downwind battle. A new, longer finish location was introduced. McGregor ultimately secured second place, with a third competitor in third. Another paddler made a remarkable comeback, surging through the field to catch the third-place finisher, though he couldn't reach McGregor. The early second-place finisher claimed fourth, and the third-place finisher finished fifth.

Bester triumphs in dramatic women's race

The women's crown battle was equally captivating. Kira Bester began aggressively but struggled early, with a competitor taking the lead. Bester overcame a mid-race challenge when she fell out of her ski, using the incident to refocus. She then converged with Burn for the final two kilometres, capitalizing on Burn's pain to claim victory. Burn finished second, and Melanie Van Niekerk took third. The trio will now head to Australia for the Shaw and Partners WA Race Week.
