I wasn’t drawn to the sport for such accolades; my deep passion for paddling led me here. While I won’t declare this the end, I would be content if it were.”
The race began with German competitor Gordan Harbrecht setting a blistering pace, leading at the two-kilometer buoy. However, Hill quickly closed the gap, expertly surfing into the lead and maintaining it decisively. His winning margin even surprised him, reportedly needing confirmation from his wife, Llani, before fully comprehending the culmination of what many consider the finest year of his remarkable career.
Hill described his season as "strange," noting domestic struggles but a consistent ability to perform when it mattered most. “Ironically, I only claimed five or six victories this year, but they were precisely the ones I coveted,” he stated.
