Cory Hill and Jemma Smith secure dominant wins at Forster Race Weekend

Summary of the Weekend

Cory Hill, a consistent participant since 2021, triumphed again at the Shaw and Partners Forster Race Weekend. He praised the "finest conditions we've experienced," attributing them to April's timing and Sunday's "exceptional wind." Hill secured victories in both races (rounds four and five of the Shaw and Partners Australian Ocean Racing Series). Jemma Smith also delivered two dominant performances in the women's field. Smith lauded the event's "great community feel" and beautiful location. The event, a favorite on the AORS calendar, attracted over 115 paddlers thanks to a revised schedule. Clear skies, warm temperatures, and favorable wind conditions alleviated initial concerns about a strong southerly and groundswell.

Saturday: The Nine Mile Cup

Hill dominated the Nine Mile Cup, winning in 57 minutes and 2 seconds, over two minutes ahead of Mackenzie Hynard (59:11) and Under 23 talent Harrison Taurins (1:00:13), who achieved his first AORS podium. Smith was equally commanding, winning the women's title in 1 hour, 3 minutes, and 58 seconds, ahead of Phoebe Woodhouse (1:07:24).

Hill, initially skeptical, found the conditions "incredibly fast." He faced a fierce challenge from Mackenzie Hynard, his training partner, but ultimately secured his second Forster Ocean Classic title in 48 minutes and 59 seconds. Hynard finished just 46 seconds behind Hill. Alex Woodhouse took third and the Under 23 title. Jim Walker achieved back-to-back Over 50’s wins, Ben Constable won the Over 40’s, and Jeremy Norton was unbeatable in the Over 60’s. Jemma Smith, the reigning AORS and Forster Ocean Classic champion, won the women's race despite strong competition. She executed an aggressive start to leverage the wind, noting conditions improved...
