An emotional family reunion marks Cory Hill’s record fifth win at the Doctor race

Cory Hill Secures Fifth Doctor Title in Emotional Family Finish

Cory Hill claimed his fifth career victory at the Doctor, an iconic downwind race, crossing the finish line with his son Ari. This triumph underscored a significant personal evolution for Hill, whose life has transformed dramatically since his first win in 2015. From a single, globally-focused racer, he is now a husband, business owner, and father of three.

A Record-Breaking Win Shared with Family

The emotional weight of this achievement was evident as Hill was met by his wife, Llani, and their three sons at Sorrento Beach. Sharing this record-breaking moment, especially carrying Ari across the line, made the victory profoundly special. Hill reflected, "It's truly emotional. Training often makes you a selfish individual, so having these experiences with your family and children is simply incredible." He emphasized his family as a primary source of motivation, stating, "I draw a lot of motivation from them. I'm here to do the best I can for my family."

Despite the challenging environment, Hill quickly took the lead after the 1.2-kilometer turning marker and never looked back, maintaining a significant gap to the finish.

Hill completed the race nearly two minutes ahead of Gold Coast local Tom Norton, with Germany's Gordan Harbrecht securing third. In the women's race, Jemma Smith celebrated her first Doctor victory after years of dedication, ahead of defending champion Danielle McKenzie.

Exceptional Season and Future Ambitions

Hill's 2023 season has been extraordinary. In the past month, the 34-year-old has won the 20 Beaches, Hong Kong Dragon Run, and West Coast Downwinder,...
