Clint Robinson OAM

While Cory Hill is the king of the current era, Clint Robinson OAM is the "Grandmaster" of Australian paddling. He is widely considered the most versatile and successful all-around paddler in history, bridging the gap between Olympic sprint kayaking and elite ocean surfski racing.

The "Unmatched" Resume

Clint Robinson is the only athlete in the world to hold major titles across five different paddling disciplines. His trophy cabinet is legendary:

  • Olympic Legend: He became a household name in 1992 by winning the Olympic Gold Medal in the K1 1000m in Barcelona at just 20 years old. He went on to win a complete set of Olympic medals (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) across five Olympic Games (1992–2008).

  • Surf Life Saving (SLS) King: Robinson is the most successful competitor in Australian Surf Life Saving history. He holds a staggering 36 National Gold Medals, surpassing the records of other icons like Trevor Hendy.

  • Molokai Dominance: In the world of open-ocean surfski, he conquered the Molokai Challenge (the World Championship of long-distance paddling) three times (2010, 2011, and 2013).

  • World Champion Status: He has held world titles in Sprint Kayak, SLS Spec Ski, Ocean Racing (Surfski), SLS Board, and 6-man Outrigger Canoe.

Technique and Philosophy

Robinson’s success came from a relentless work ethic and a "never-say-die" attitude.

  • The Barcelona Finish: His 1992 Olympic win is famous for his sheer exhaustion; he pushed himself so hard that he was unable to provide a drug-test sample for six hours due to extreme dehydration.

  • Transition to Ocean: Unlike many sprint kayakers who struggle with moving water, Robinson grew up in the surf at Maroochydore. This gave him a unique "surf sense" that allowed him to dominate the Molokai channel even against seasoned ocean specialists.

Current Legacy in 2026

Today, Clint Robinson remains a massive influence in the sport. He is the Head Coach at Maroochydore SLSC and runs Clint Robinson Performance & Excellence, where he mentors the next generation of paddlers—including some of the elite athletes we see on the 2026 World Cup circuit today.
