Thailand hosts ITO certification during Asian championships

During the recent Asian championships, which featured stand-up paddling, ocean racing, and marathon events, a crucial examination for international marathon technical officials took place.

The initiative, greatly supported by Miki Bando's dedicated recruitment efforts, led to a comprehensive seminar and subsequent examination. A total of 13 participants, including one from Hong Kong, one from Macau, four from Japan, and seven from Thailand, demonstrated remarkable diligence throughout their studies. Every candidate successfully passed both the theoretical and practical components of the assessment.

Ensuring the global growth of marathon paddling necessitates a sufficient number of qualified International Technical Officials (ITOs) across every continent. These officials are vital for fostering the sport's expansion.

With numerous international marathon events scheduled for Asia in the near future, and given the ICF's strong commitment to sustainability, minimizing travel is a key priority. This reduces the constant need to bring in ITOs from distant continents.

Our sincere gratitude goes to the Thai Canoe Federation for their invaluable support in hosting these examinations, and to Miki Bando for her unwavering enthusiasm. Their contributions were instrumental in making this event a success. We eagerly anticipate seeing this promising new cohort of ITOs officiating at upcoming international and national marathon competitions.
