Tahiti welcomes elite paddlers for ocean racing world championships

The beautiful island of Tahiti is set to host the 2015 ICF Ocean Racing World Championships from October 2nd to 3rd. This prestigious event promises intense competition, attracting a formidable lineup of the globe's most accomplished paddlers from diverse disciplines, all vying for the ultimate accolades.

This year marks only the second occasion that world titles will be awarded in this specific discipline, following its debut in Portugal back in 2013. Despite its relatively recent introduction as a world championship event, ocean racing has cultivated a substantial international following and boasts one of the most thriving global circuits among all canoeing sports.

A strong contingent of elite athletes is expected to participate, including several past champions and Olympic medalists.

Key Competitors to Watch:

• Sean Rice (South Africa) and Michele Eray (USA), the reigning SS1 Men's and Women's gold medalists from the 2013 inaugural event in Portugal, are both returning to defend their titles.
• Olympic sprint canoeing legends are also venturing into ocean racing, such as Clint Robison (Australia), the 1992 Barcelona K1M 500m champion.
• London 2012 gold medalists Murray Stuart (Australia, K4M 1000m) and Krisztina Fazekas (Hungary, K4W 500m) will also showcase their ocean paddling prowess.
• From the marathon canoeing circuit, the renowned multiple-Marathon World Champion Hank McGregor (South Africa) is a prominent figure.
• Additionally, Yannick Laousse (France), the 2014 Ocean Racing European Champion, is another top paddler poised for the Tahitian challenge.
