The Surfski Shack, representing Malta, successfully competed in the 2025 ICF Canoe Ocean Racing World Championships in Durban, South Africa. Facing brutal conditions, the team achieved several notable results:

  • Mixed Doubles (SS2): Matthew Schembri (33) and Mattea Micallef (19) completed a grueling 30km course in 2:24:56, placing 39th out of 69 crews. Despite a "wipeout" at the treacherous eManzimtoti shorebreak, they swam the final meters to secure their finish.

  • Singles (SS1):

    • Mattea Micallef: Finished the 34km course in 3:03:20, ranking 14th in the U23 category and 51st overall.

    • Matthew Schembri: Clocked 2:37:11, finishing 178th in a massive field of over 400 male athletes.
