Richards and Brackpool secure spots on ICF Athletes’ Committee

New Committee Members Appointed

Danielle Richards (New Zealand) and Charlie Brackpool (Great Britain) are the newest members of the International Canoe Federation’s Athletes’ Committee for 2025-2029. Their selection was finalized by the ICF Board of Directors, following recommendations from existing members. They join an accomplished roster of athletes from various nations.

Danielle Richards' Vision

Richards brings extensive experience, including a silver medal at the 2025 ICF Canoe Ocean Racing World Championships and previous world championship gold (2019) and silver (2022), plus an Oceania Championships title in Canoe Sprint. She expressed pride in joining the committee, eager to share skills gained throughout her career. Richards advocates for athlete voice in fostering a high-performance environment, aiming to champion non-Olympic disciplines, female athletes, and athlete development. Her background as an international competitor, coach, and mentor provides a broad perspective on the paddling community's challenges and opportunities.

Charlie Brackpool's Objectives

Charlie Brackpool, a prominent Canoe Freestyle athlete since 2014 and a 2015 World Championships finalist, also boasts significant officiating experience as chief judge at major events (2024 World Cup/European Championships, 2025 World Championships). He contributed to the ICF Freestyle Rules Working Group. Brackpool is excited to represent freestyle and other non-Olympic disciplines, focusing on being an effective advocate to ensure athletes are heard and influence ICF decisions. He plans to prioritize athlete well-being, including mental health resources, and boost the global profile of all paddlesport disciplines, fostering a positive and supportive environment.

Committee Leadership

The eight-member ICF Athletes’ Committee will soon convene to elect its Chair, who will then hold a position on the ICF Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
