Record Turnout in Policastro Bussentino as Entry Numbers Double for National Ocean Racing

The National Ocean Racing event in Policastro Bussentino concluded with impressive participation and high-level competition. Held over the weekend of April 25-26, the event saw over 100 paddlers from 25 different sports clubs gather in the province of Salerno. Organised by Polisportiva Cilento, the race featured a challenging 16km long-distance course from Marina di Camerota to Policastro for senior categories, while youth athletes competed on a shorter track starting from the mouth of the Bussento River.

Senior Results: High-Speed Duels

The Senior Men’s SS1 race was a tightly contested affair. Massimo Palomba (Canottieri Padova) secured the gold with a time of 1:16:36.0, narrowly beating Giovanni Saperdi and Riccardo Maccioccu, both representing Shock Wave Sports. In the Senior Women’s category, Laura Morelli (Circolo Ilva Bagnoli) delivered a dominant performance to take the title in 1:41:17.0, finishing well ahead of Maria Chiara Nasso.

Junior and Youth Highlights

The next generation of paddlers also showcased exceptional skill:

  • Junior Men: Lorenzo Marrone (Circolo Ilva Bagnoli) triumphed in 1:17:41.7, leading a podium that included Leonardo Brandizzi and Agostino Gesualdi.

  • Boys (Ragazzi): Davide Rovati (CUS Milano) claimed victory in a fast-paced sprint (10:55.4), followed by Damiano Longobardo and local athlete Francesco Bifano.

  • Girls (Ragazzi): Sofia Fabris (Circolo Ilva Bagnoli) took the gold in 12:15.2, followed by Fabiana Di Meo and Maddalena Gesualdi.

A Successful Weekend for Circolo Ilva Bagnoli

The event proved particularly successful for Circolo Ilva Bagnoli, whose athletes secured several podium finishes across the Senior, Junior, and Youth categories. With a diverse field of 101 competitors, the Policastro Bussentino leg confirmed the growing popularity and technical evolution of Ocean Racing in Italy, providing a spectacular showcase of endurance and ocean mastery along the Cilento coastline.
