The International Canoe Federation (ICF) has announced the addition of several new members to its Athletes Committee, including two distinguished Tokyo Olympic gold medalists. This refreshed committee is set to play a pivotal role in guiding the future trajectory of ICF paddle sports. Among the newly appointed members are Jiri Prskavec from the Czech Republic, an Olympic gold medalist in men’s K1 canoe slalom, and Hungary’s Sandor Totka, who secured a gold medal in the men’s 200-meter canoe sprint at the Tokyo Games. Both athletes received strong endorsement from their fellow competitors to represent their interests on the committee. Further strengthening the slalom representation alongside Prskavec is British women’s C1 paddler, Eilidh Gibson. In canoe sprint, Bridgitte Hartley of South Africa, a bronze medalist at the 2012 Olympics, will join Totka. The committee also sees the return of Australian paracanoe athlete Amanda Jennings, a silver medalist from the 2016 Rio Paralympics. The ICF anticipates announcing a second paracanoe representative soon. Additionally, elections are currently underway to select two representatives from non-Olympic ICF disciplines. The ICF extends its congratulations to all the newly appointed and returning members of the Athletes Committee, expressing enthusiasm for their collective input and ideas that will undoubtedly shape the future of all canoeing disciplines.
