Ocean Racing Season Continues in Policastro Bussentino with Second National Event

The seaside town of Policastro Bussentino in the province of Salerno is set to become the epicenter of Italian paddle sports on April 25 and 26. This event marks the second leg of the national Ocean Racing circuit, following the successful season opener held in Naples last March. Organized under the banner of the Polisportiva Cilento, the weekend features both a National Race and the prestigious Italian Master Championships.

The Fleet and the Course

The event has drawn significant interest from across the country, with 101 athletes representing 25 different sports clubs ready to take to the water. The organizers have designed a course that highlights the natural beauty of the Cilento coast while providing a stern technical challenge:

  • Senior, Junior, and Master Categories: These athletes will tackle a grueling 16-kilometer course starting from Marina di Camerota and finishing in Policastro Bussentino. This distance is designed to test endurance and the ability to navigate open-sea conditions.

  • Youth Categories (Allievi, Cadetti, and Ragazzi): Younger paddlers will compete on a shorter, more accessible course starting from the mouth of the Bussento River.

Race Schedule

The competition is split across two days to accommodate the various categories and ensure optimal racing conditions:

  • Saturday, April 25: Racing is scheduled to begin at 12:00 PM, focusing on the main national events.

  • Sunday, April 26: The action resumes early with a 9:30 AM start, featuring the concluding races and the crowning of the new Italian Master Champions.

Significance of the Event

This stop in Policastro Bussentino is a crucial moment for athletes looking to secure points in the national standings. By combining the elite National Race with the Master Championship, the event celebrates both the high-performance competitive scene and the enduring passion of veteran paddlers, all within one of Italy’s most scenic coastal environments.
