North America to host multiple ICF world championships in 2026

The International Canoe Federation (ICF) announced its 2026 world championship hosts, with North America securing several key events, highlighting the region's growing role in paddling sports.

North American highlights

• Sarasota, Florida, will host the first combined canoe marathon and SUP world championships in 2026. It also secured the 2026 ICF Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships, and the 2024 ICF Stand Up Paddling World Championships.
• Oklahoma, USA, will host the 2026 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships, marking its return to North America since 2014.

Other global venues

• Poznan, Poland, will host the 2026 ICF Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Championships.
• Krakow, Poland, secured the 2026 ICF Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom World Championships, plus the 2025 ICF Canoe Slalom Masters World Championships.
• Wascana Lake, Canada, was awarded the 2026 ICF Dragon Boat World Championships.
• The 2025 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Championships will be in Plattling/Bavaria, Germany.

Additional board decisions

• Endorsed the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes; updates on support for Ukrainian athletes received.
• An updated Covid protocol for upcoming events was approved.
• Collaboration with Paddle Australia on a legacy project for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic canoe slalom venue was agreed upon.
• Other upcoming events: 2024 ICF Paracanoe World Championships and Paris 2024 Paralympic qualifier in Szeged, Hungary; this year’s ICF Canoe Sprint Masters World Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
