Naxos Cup Returns to Sicily: Italian Ocean Racing Titles Up for Grabs

The Naxos Cup, an annual international event on the International Canoe Federation (ICF) calendar, is poised to return. Organized by Circolo Nautico Teocle, this year's edition will award the Italian Ocean Racing single boat (SS1) titles. Running from May 16 to 18, it marks the seventh consecutive year the event has been held in Sicily, serving to promote the stunning Ionian Messina territory. Giardini Naxos is also slated to host the SUP World Championships in 2026. The three-day Sicilian event features a diverse race program. SS1 races are scheduled for the younger categories: Allievi (Juniors), Cadetti (Cadets), and Ragazzi (Boys). Meanwhile, Junior, Under 23, and Senior athletes will compete in both SS1 and OC1 disciplines. These top three categories will face a demanding 21 km downwind course, stretching from Santa Teresa di Riva to Giardini Naxos. The Ragazzi (Boys) will race a 5 km distance, while Allievi (Juniors) and Cadetti (Cadets) will tackle a 2 km circuit, both within the scenic bay of Giardini Naxos. A strong field of 63 athletes, representing 14 different clubs, is registered to participate. The event kicks off on Friday with dedicated free practice sessions, preparing competitors for a full weekend of racing. The main Naxos Cup competition officially starts on Saturday, May 17, at 11:00 AM. Sunday, May 18, will be dedicated to the National Race, specifically for the Allievi (Juniors), Cadetti (Cadets), and Ragazzi (Boys) categories. Live results will be accessible online via the Italian Timekeepers Federation service.
