Naples to Host Italy's Ocean Racing Season Opener

The two-day Ocean Racing event in Naples concluded with a highly positive outcome, marking a successful start to the season as the year’s first National Race. Hosted by Circolo Ilva Bagnoli, the competition proved to be an organizational triumph, bringing together athletes across a wide range of categories, from Youth and Juniors to Seniors and Masters.

The Challenge of the Gulf

The race course stretched across the iconic waters of the Gulf, connecting Bagnoli, Lido Mappatella, and Via Caracciolo. With the scenic backdrop of the Island of Nisida, competitors faced a technical and demanding course characterized by the Gulf's signature winds and wave motion.

  • Saturday was dedicated to the National Surfski and Outrigger events (SS1, OC1, SS2, OC2).

  • Sunday shifted the focus to the future of the sport, highlighting youth talent in the U12, U14, and U16 categories.

Key Results

The competitive field saw standout performances from several clubs:

  • Senior Men (SS1): Shock Wave Sports dominated the podium with a clean sweep. Giovanni Saperdi took the gold (1:00:14.90), followed by teammates Riccardo Maccioccu and Matteo Muzio.

  • Senior Women (SS1): Altea Giuliana Clerici (LNI San Benedetto Del Tronto) secured a hard-fought victory with a time of 1:57:51.10.

  • Senior Men (SS2): The duo of Ivan Esposito and Carlo Pisa (CC Napoli) triumphed in the double surfski event.

  • Junior & Youth: Paolo Ragusa (CN Posillipo) won the Junior SS1, while Damiano Longobardo (Circolo Ilva Bagnoli) and Flavia Nardiello (CC Napoli) claimed the top spots in the "Ragazzi" categories.

Overall Success

The event concluded with CC Napoli being awarded the prestigious "Surfski Giovani" (Youth Surfski) trophy, recognizing their squad's overall performance across the youth categories. Ultimately, the weekend succeeded in its dual mission: providing a high-level technical challenge for elite athletes while fostering the growth of the discipline among the next generation of Italian paddlers.
