Naples Gulf to host the fifth edition of the Scugnizzo Run ocean racing competition

The Scugnizzo Run: Ocean Racing in the Gulf of Naples

The picturesque Gulf of Naples is set to host a vibrant celebration of paddle sports with the fifth national Scugnizzo Run. This premier Ocean Racing competition will take place on Saturday, March 28th, and Sunday, March 29th, at the Circolo Ilva Bagnoli. The event, part of a wider series of initiatives, is expected to draw a significant number of athletes and enthusiasts from across Italy to the Campanian capital for two action-packed days dedicated to various paddle disciplines.

The Challenging Race Course

Competitors will navigate a captivating course through the Gulf's waters, stretching between Bagnoli, Lido Mappatella, and Via Caracciolo. The stunning backdrop of Nisida Island will add to the natural beauty of the race. The Gulf's characteristic conditions, including variable winds and often choppy seas, will provide a demanding yet spectacular test for Ocean Racing specialists. This discipline continues to experience substantial growth, both locally and nationally, making this event a crucial fixture on the calendar.

Event Schedule and Inclusivity

The festivities commence on Saturday morning with "Pagaie in Gioco" (Paddles in Play), a promotional activity designed for families and schools, encouraging broader participation in paddle sports. This will be followed by the national Surfski and Outrigger race, exclusively for federated athletes competing in the SS1, OC1, SS2, and OC2 categories. An awards ceremony is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Circolo Ilva Bagnoli. Saturday's events will conclude with "Pagaiate di Cuore" (Paddles of Heart), a convivial and charitable gathering featuring music and an aperitif. Proceeds from this event will be dedicated to purchasing sports equipment for paralympic and special athletes, underscoring the competition's strong commitment to values of inclusion and community participation.
