International Canoe Federation Ocean Racing World Championships Kicks Off
The 2021 International Canoe Federation (ICF) Ocean Racing World Championships are poised to commence this weekend in Lanzarote, Spain. Over 200 competitors are expected to participate in this prestigious event, marking the fifth edition of the ICF world titles.Challenges and Notable Absences
Despite the enthusiasm, global travel restrictions and ongoing COVID-19 lockdowns have unfortunately prevented some top athletes from attending. Among those unable to compete are the reigning 2019 world champions:- Sean Rice from South Africa
- Danielle McKenzie from New Zealand
Elite Field of Competitors
The men's competition promises to be fierce, featuring several decorated paddlers. The lineup includes two European champions and two European silver medalists. Leading the charge will be Spain's own Esteban Medina, the 2018 champion, alongside his compatriot and 2016 champion, Walter Bouzan. In the women's category, South Africa's Michelle Burn, a two-time world championship silver medalist, is expected to be a strong contender. She will face stiff competition from Spanish European championship silver medalists Amaia Osaba and Judit Verges Xifra, among others.Race Schedule and Divisions
