International Canoe Federation confirms 2022 world championship locations

The International Canoe Federation (ICF) finalized its selections for the 2022 World Championships in Tokyo, confirming that major canoeing events would once again take place in Dartmouth, Canada, and Augsburg, Germany.

Specifically, Dartmouth is set to host the 2022 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, and Augsburg will be the venue for the 2022 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships.

Additionally, the 2022 ICF Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships will be held in Szeged, Hungary, with Ivrea, Italy, hosting the 2022 ICF Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom World Championships.

Other ICF disciplines also had their 2022 world championship locations determined:

• Ponte de Lima, Portugal, will stage the 2022 ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships.
• Saint Omer, France, is designated for the 2022 ICF Canoe Polo World Championships.
• Treignac, France, will host the 2022 Wildwater World Championships.

Looking ahead, Viana do Castelo, Portugal, was chosen for the 2020 ICF World Ocean Racing Championships, while Lanzarote, Spain, will host the 2021 Ocean Racing World titles.

Ternopil, Ukraine, secured the 2022 Dragon Boat World Championships, with Poznan, Poland, hosting the dragon boat club world titles in the preceding year.

Augsburg's Legacy in Canoe Slalom

Augsburg's selection marks its fourth time hosting the canoe slalom world championships, a prestigious event it last organized in 2003.

The German city, which famously introduced canoe slalom to the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972, presented its bid for the 2022 championships with the evocative theme of "Coming Home".
