ICF unveils list of athletes vying for committee positions

Many accomplished athletes, including Olympic, Paralympic, and world champions, have put their names forward for election to the International Canoe Federation's Athletes’ Committee. The ICF has now officially announced the full list of nominated paddlers for the upcoming elections.

Twenty-three athletes, representing fourteen different countries, are seeking election to the Athletes’ Committee for the 2025-2029 term. The committee will comprise eight members: two from Canoe Sprint, two from Canoe Slalom, two from Paracanoe, and two from non-Olympic disciplines. To ensure gender balance, one male and one female athlete will be elected from each of these four categories.

Athletes in Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe will cast their votes during the ICF Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Championships, held from August 20-24 in Milan, Italy. The results for these categories will be declared after the championships conclude.

Canoe Sprint Nominees

• Female: Yoana GEORGIEVA (BUL), Bridgitte HARTLEY (RSA), Saman SOLTANI (ICF), Katie VINCENT (CAN), Shixiao XU (CHN)
• Male: Sebastian BRENDEL (GER), Jackson COLLINS (AUS), Carlo TACCHINI (ITA)

Paracanoe Nominees

• Female: Emma WIGGS (GBR)
• Male: Brahim GUENDOUZ (ALG), Eslam JAHEDI (IRI)

Canoe Slalom athletes can vote at the ICF Slalom World Championships in Penrith, Australia, from September 29 to October 4. The successful candidates will join the ICF Athletes’ Committee after this event.

Canoe Slalom Nominees

• Female: Noemie FOX (AUS), Amalie HILGERTOVA (CZE)
• Male: Michal MARTIKAN (SVK)

The ICF Board of Directors will convene in October to finalize the two representatives from non-Olympic disciplines, based on recommendations from the six already elected members.
