ICF launches new Chinese streaming platform for global event coverage

ICF Partners with Chinese Platform for Global Live Streaming

The International Canoe Federation (ICF) is set to broadcast its Stand Up Paddling (SUP) World Championships and other major events globally through a new, dedicated live streaming platform based in China. This platform will also offer local language commentary, significantly expanding the sport's reach.

Expanding Presence in a Key Market

H&A Media, based in Lausanne, has been engaged by the ICF to manage this new platform. It will cover a robust schedule of international canoeing events, including those hosted in China. This initiative underscores the rapid growth of canoeing in the region, with disciplines like canoe marathon, SUP, dragon boat, and canoe slalom scheduled for Chinese events in 2019 and 2020, ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

ICF Secretary General Simon Toulson highlighted China as a vital market, emphasizing the need for strong media visibility. He noted that collaboration with CCTV and H&A Media provides valuable local insights, and a youth-focused digital platform in Chinese will engage the next generation of athletes. The live streams will be freely available on Huya TV, a fast-growing Chinese digital platform.

Li Xin, Secretary General of the Chinese Canoe Association, welcomed the ICF's confidence, stating that the association plans to host several ICF World Championships soon and looks forward to delivering world-class events.

Guy Horne, Director at H&A Media, pointed out that live-streaming offers immediate feedback on sport popularity in China. He believes the model created with Huya TV and ICF organizers will generate long-term growth for canoeing.
