ICF's Talent Identification Program: Fostering Global Paddling Excellence

The International Canoe Federation's (ICF) Talent Identification Program (TIP) has proven highly effective in cultivating new canoeing talent across developing regions. A notable achievement highlighting this success was the gold medal won by Terence Saramandif of Mauritius at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.

Nurturing Emerging Athletes

TIP's core mission is to identify and develop promising canoe athletes globally. Graduates have achieved significant milestones, including medals at the Asian Games and PanAm Games, reaching World Cup semi-finals, and competing in the Olympic Games. This demonstrates the program's success in preparing athletes for elite competition.

Sustainable Growth and Leadership

The program fosters sustainability, with early TIP graduates now leading and coaching. A recent TIP camp in Iran, ahead of the U23 Asian Canoe Slalom Championships, was notably run by former participants. ICF TIP co-ordinator, Pierrick Gosselin, remarked, "TIP is working exactly as we hoped. Many initial graduates now run their own camps, coach, or serve as administrators, helping expand canoeing into new territories with fantastic results. We now have athletes from Africa, South and Central America, and Asia making their mark globally, including a YOG gold medalist from Mauritius."

PanAm Games Success and Broadening Participation

The recent PanAm Games in Brazil showcased TIP's impact, with numerous athletes earning medals. A parallel camp hosted 15 athletes from Chile, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Venezuela, marking Bolivia's first participation in a TIP America camp. Medalists included:
