ICF announces inaugural Canoe Ocean Racing World Series

The International Canoe Federation (ICF) is launching its inaugural Canoe Ocean Racing World Series in 2026, a pivotal moment for the discipline. This initiative transforms the sport from standalone events into a unified global circuit, promising enhanced visibility and engagement. Marian Sarbu, Chairman of the ICF Canoe Ocean Racing Committee, highlighted the series' ambition: "This series will serve as a singular global platform, uniting athletes, federations, and spectators from every continent." He added, "This is the pivotal moment we have diligently worked towards." Sarbu emphasized the World Series will offer a clear competitive pathway for athletes, boost media exposure, and appeal more to commercial partners and broadcasters, thus reaching wider audiences. The 2026 series spans multiple continents, featuring key events:

• Madeira, Portugal (May 1-3): The series begins on this island, a proven host after the 2024 World Championships, attracting top paddlers.
• Kuantan, Malaysia (July 3-5): History is made with Asia's first World Cup event, aiming to introduce the sport to new audiences.
• Tahiti, French Polynesia (July 31-August 2): This spectacular Pacific venue offers a preview of the 2027 World Championships, set for the same location.
• Fortaleza, Brazil (September 19-21): Latin America hosts its inaugural World Cup, expanding the series' global reach.
• La Reunion, France (November 15): The series concludes here, providing a dramatic finale to a groundbreaking season.
