ICF Atlantic Ocean Racing World Cup Highlights

The recent ICF Atlantic Ocean Racing world cup in Lanzarote witnessed remarkable performances, with South Africa's Joshua Fenn surprising seasoned competitors and Spain's Judith Verges Xifra achieving a significant career victory.

Men's Race Dominance by Joshua Fenn

Twenty-year-old Fenn, who previously secured the 2019 U23 ICF ocean racing world championship, demonstrated exceptional strength against a strong international lineup. He crossed the finish line over a minute before Germany's Gordan Harbrecht, while South Africa's 2019 ICF world champion, Sean Rice, claimed third place, nearly another minute behind.

Fenn's triumph earned him both the overall men's title and the U23 men's category. Additionally, 17-year-old Bernard Pereira from Portugal, despite finishing 15th overall, was recognized as the leading junior competitor.

Judith Verges Xifra Leads Spanish Sweep in Women's Event

In the women's event, 26-year-old Verges Xifra, a silver medalist at both the 2018 European championships and the recent Mediterranean Games, delivered a dominant performance. Her victory spearheaded a clean sweep for the Spanish contingent.

Verges Xifra finished an impressive five minutes ahead of her closest rival, Amaia Osaba Olaberri, who had previously earned a bronze medal at the 2018 European championships. Fellow Spanish athlete Chloe Bunnett secured the third position, completing the Spanish podium.

The Spanish team's success continued with teenager Sonia Deying Ma Li, who finished fifth among women and claimed the junior title. Paula Ruiz Arruti further solidified Spain's dominance by securing the U23 women's title, placing seventh overall in the women's race.
