The picturesque Gulf of Cagliari recently played host to the thrilling Italian national Ocean Racing championships, a two-day spectacle that saw national titles awarded across various categories. Athletes competed in Senior, Junior, Master, and Under 23 divisions, showcasing their prowess in double boats.

The event was meticulously organized by the Lega Navale Italiana - Sezione di Cagliari and the Canoa Club Cagliari. A total of 39 athletes, representing 18 different clubs, converged on the Sardinian capital, forming 23 crews to compete in the demanding Surfski double (SS2) and Outrigger double (OC2) categories.

Senior Category Highlights

  • In the SS2 men's Senior race, the formidable duo of Riccardo Maccioccu and Massimo Palomba from Shock Wave Sports delivered a dominant performance, securing the national title with an impressive time of 1:17'50.
  • Andrea Pavan and Riccardo Sarri (CC Vicenza) earned the silver medal, finishing in 1:19'32.
  • The bronze medal went to Nicolò Ferrari and Francesco Balsamo (LNI Cagliari), who completed the course in 1:21'13.
  • The OC2 men's Senior title was claimed by Giuseppe and Ugo Andrea Catte of Team Kayak Sardegna, who crossed the finish line with a winning time of 1:49'22.

Junior Category Results

  • The SS2 men's Junior event saw Paolo Ragusa and Carlo Pisa (CN Posillipo) emerge victorious, clocking a time of 1:22'20 to secure the gold.
  • Leonardo Brandizzi and Giulio Melandri (Roma Canoa Academy) took second place with a time of 1:24'00.
  • Carlo Pisu and Riccardo Serra finished in third position, recording a time of 1:28'58.
