Athletes elected to guide the future of canoeing at ICF

ICF Athletes Committee welcomes new representatives

The International Canoe Federation (ICF) has finalized its Athletes Committee, bringing together a diverse group of paddlers dedicated to shaping the sport's future. This committee, comprising both elected and appointed members, aims to represent all ICF disciplines and ensure athlete voices are central to decision-making.

Elections and appointments

During the ICF World Championships in Pau, France, canoe slalom athletes elected:

• Alexander Slafkovsky (Slovakia), an eight-time C1 world champion.
• Jessica Fox (Australia), a two-time Olympian.

They join Yurii Postrigai (Russia) and Krisztina Fazekas Zur (Hungary), elected earlier at the ICF Sprint Canoe World Championships in Racice.

Four additional athletes were appointed by the ICF Executive Committee:

• Hayley Jo-Nixon (South Africa), canoe marathon.
• Claire O’Hara (Great Britain), canoe freestyle.
• Tim Lodge (Great Britain), paracanoe.
• Amanda Reynolds (Australia), paracanoe.

President Perurena's remarks and athlete engagement

ICF President Jose Perurena praised the athletes' passion and strong engagement, expressing confidence in the committee's ability to guide the sport forward. Athlete forums at sprint and slalom World Championships allowed participants to contribute to discussions on the sport's direction. The eight-member committee will elect a Chair to represent them on the ICF Executive Committee.

Perurena highlighted strengthening the athlete-official relationship. He thanked all involved in the selection process, including successful candidates, those not elected, and outgoing committee members for their significant contributions.
