Kenny Rice

Kenny Rice is a powerhouse of South African surfski and a member of the elite "Rice Dynasty." As of 2026, he is recognized as one of the few paddlers in history to have achieved the "Grand Slam" of ICF World Titles, winning at the Junior, U23, and Senior levels.

 The 2022 World Championship Breakthrough

While he had long been a podium threat, his defining career moment came in Viana do Castelo, Portugal (2022).

The Senior Title: After finishing runner-up to his brother Sean in 2019, Kenny claimed the Senior Men’s World Title in 2022.

Tactical Brilliance: He famously "shut the door" on legends like Hank McGregor and Cory Hill during a grueling 20 km race. He is known for his ability to maintain extreme speeds even when conditions "glass over" (turn flat), a testament to his raw physical engine.

Dominance in the "Gorge" and "The Doctor"

Kenny is often called the king of the Gorge Downwind Champs in the USA, having secured a rare "four-peat" (four consecutive wins) at the event.

The Doctor (Perth): In late 2022, he also captured his first "Doctor" trophy in Australia, leading a clean sweep for the South African contingent.

Style: Unlike his brother Sean, who is often praised for a "silky" and technical style, Kenny is described as a "South African Powerhouse." His racing is characterized by high intensity and the ability to "redline" (maintain maximum heart rate) for longer than almost any other competitor on the circuit.

Recent Performance (2025–2026)

In the 2025 World Championships in Durban, Kenny remained a central figure in the lead pack. While he finished just outside the podium in a race won by Cory Hill, he secured a top-5 position in what many called the most competitive field ever assembled.

The "Rice Family" Legacy

Kenny is the younger brother of two-time World Champion Sean Rice. Together, they are the most successful siblings in the sport's history. Kenny often credits his brother's mentorship for his tactical development, though in recent years, the two have become fierce rivals on the water, often "dicing" for the lead in the final kilometers of major internationals.
